Opal Card Update, Local Bus Issues And Feedback

The news is there has been scanning issues for commuters for the Opal Card, while being used where balances were not been shown. I understand from an Opal technical adviser that as opal gets updates these issues are being eradicated. This within itself is a big job itself to do.

I know my current issue is after I scan my card, the 'Green Screen' comes up with balance and then says card is not validated something like already scanned.

On buses, a Whalan commuter has advised how at St Clair at 8.22am the  Busways bus 775 didn't have any 'Opal Card' scanning machine working. So, although the gentleman had money on his Opal Card to pay, the bus driver instructed the commuter to pay fare via cash. My understanding is from other commuters is that if there is an 'Opal Card' machine malfunctioning most bus drivers let the commuters on as they feel they should charge then, when it is not the commuters problem. I will notify Opal and get back to you, when we have more information. Maybe any NSW State members could find out for us as well.

On the good news front, a pensioner that I spoke to from  St Clair is fearful of how the Opal Card will be used and claims other pensioners will feel the same, but after explaining how simple the process will be (if working), the pensioner is now eager to use the Opal Card and cannot wait for the  launch for seniors/pensioners. She understands this can cut the bus journey significantly, thus providing more efficient time tabled bus services, as there is less money handling!
